Buzzcocks XD

  • Dec. 22nd, 2009 at 9:00 AM
Okay, who else keeps re-watching David Tennant's appearance on "Never Mind the Buzzcocks"? XDDD I've seen it like, 20 times already? Yeah something like that.
AND. I. CAN'T. STOP. WATCHING. IT. DAMNIT.

David is just incredible XD Torchwood jokes, JB jokes (Yes, David, BARROWMAN! XDDD), Coldplay (Deal with it!), Phil asking about a Daleks (I'll never see them the same way again!)... strawberries! And Catherine having a lot of blonde moments, David's dreamy looks, Bernard Cribbins is <3, Noel laugh (really strange hearing him laugh XD).

"Doctor, doctor I have a strawberry on my head!" "You must be a cone!"

"Do you think the Doctor ever got busy with a Dalek? HARD-ER! HARD-ER! HARD-ERRR!"

"No, not Robin Hood, what was it, Kate Bush?"

"Put your records on and do something with your hair!"

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS EPISODE! <3 Now I'm going to watch episode starring JB again, for a hundredth time!

*****

From the other news, I had to go to school today. I took part in Christmas play. It was my English teacher's idea, she said I'll be a wonderful Margaret Tatcher. I was scared. VERY scared. I mean, I can't act. BUT, today, when I was looking at all these poeple, all the teachers, and started saying everything I had to, it went rather good. I AM AWESOME. I rock, and now everybody knows it X3 I was the only one who memorized my part of the script, the other girls remembered only about half of everything they had to say. I was great. This thought made me feel so much better today! My teacher said I did a wonderful job, I remembered all the carols in English, two in Russian and even one in German!

And YES, I tagged this post as "theatre". I'm SO full of myself today! I'll be popular someday! Even if not as an actress, though XD

There is snow

and I remember a long ago morning waking up next to Jodie, our arms loose around each other in friendship and for warmth. And there was no sex but there was an intimacy I had never had and would not again for a long time. And later we went to Schiller part and had a snowball fight and laughter shifted back and forth in the loose snow.

Rush

  • Dec. 20th, 2009 at 8:21 AM
I was freaking out about the possibility of a flight cancellation in the morning, due to predicted bad weather in the eastern US, but fingers crossed it'll be OK. I was cheered up to see that Gareth Thomas - legendary Welsh rugby player - has come out, and seems to be properly supported by his team mates and the Welsh Rugby Union. Hopefully, public transport won't be disrupted by snow and ice today.  I'm off to class.  See you Tuesday, NJ peeps!!!

Well, Duh.

  • Dec. 19th, 2009 at 6:21 PM
I don't have to have the energy to do a full work out in order to go to the gym.  I can go even when I feel like crap and do 5 minutes on the treadmill.  I need the habit of going there and doing what I can; I do not need the old All Or Nothing Perfectionist attitude I am shedding in other areas of my life.  I do not need to feel guilty and a failure whenever I pass the gym, and so hurry by.  I can meander down there every morning, do 5 minutes on the treadmill if I'm not well, do 20 minutes on the rower, do the full work out... it's the habit of being there that's important, not whether or not I can do the full routine.

Take THAT!, distorted thinking!  Perfectionist paralysis begone!

Feels really good to find myself shedding this shit.  I already feel stronger and fitter.

partying it up with the dogs

  • Dec. 20th, 2009 at 2:08 AM

I just came back from a dog party!!
Truffles in her little party hat. It disappeared after a few shots, and I think she might have eaten it.

Maya, the lovely birthday girl!

And Max, the gorgeous grey-white husky. Despite being so huge he is so calm and regal and unruffled (as compared to the 6 half-crazed barking dachshunds)... and even though Zackdt (or however you spell his name) was the one trying to make out with anyone who would let him, Max totally stole my heart!! Especially after he did this:

Awwww :D I want a husky.

The dog owners of Tanjong Rhu have one thing to say to the Waterside management: PISS OFF cause we are taking the passenger lifts whether you or your crummy management council fogeys like it or not! Or in short, as Cartman would say it, and pardon my crudeness- suck our ballz!!!!!!!! >:(

"Density of Souls"

  • Dec. 19th, 2009 at 9:31 AM
I've finished reading "Density of Souls" (Christopher Rice's book) and... it wasn't as bad as I expected. Of course some parts were slightly, em, how to call it, too much? Okey, they were too much, and dark themes/mystery/angst/confusion made me confused, too by the end, but I liked the story very, very much and I have to say I really enjoyed Chris' style of writing. I enjoyed it more than I enjoyed his mother's style of writing, and THAT has to mean something.
And I really liked the ending of the book. Surprising, but welcomed very, very much after all what happened in the story. Nice job. Not totally great, but for a debut book, it's really good.
I'm considering buying it actually, even if I'm not a fan of dark/themes and angst. It clearly has "something" I always enjoy in the book, so, why not?

AND, I've finished reading Polish book "Zatoka Ostów". Hm, another book to buy, even if I'll propably pretend the last scene didn't ever happened. I'll just forget about two last pages. Overall, it was a very good book, too.

And again, BIG thanks to [info]bachaboska for giving me a chnce to read the books! <3

Author's Notes: Okay, next Christmas gift, this time for my wonderful [info]vampyreranger ^^
She wanted me to draw some Bleach yuri couple, so I had to choose these two, becasue they just need very, very, very much love! Please, they're canon in my eyes, and nothing will change that. They're just too cute to resist!
I had a lot of fun while drawing this one! I need to draw more femslash, I guess. Most of my "watchers" don't care about femslash and just don't look at it, but I just have to give femslash more love. Right?
Enjoy and comment! <3 I know I already said this, but, Merry Christmas [info]vampyreranger

Pause For Thought

  • Dec. 17th, 2009 at 11:53 PM
I got caught up in looking at neuroscience on YouTube.  I'm half an hour into a round table discussion on neuroscience and politics, and it's 11.45pm.  I really need to go to bed.  If you want to know how fMRIs of the brain, self-reporting, unconscious decisions about trustworthiness, and how the way we process information affects our political (and all other) ideologies, this is a really interesting discussion.  It's an hour and a half, with slides and anecdotes and explanations of studies and data.  I'm half way through, and will definitely be watching it all the way through, probably several times.

[EDIT]:  I'm on my second mug of morning tea (slow moving today) and watching the discussion from where I left off last night.  Right now, I'm struck by two things:
  • That, though the event is clearly attended largely by US political liberals, the scientists do challenge the moderator whenever he makes what they feel are over-simplifications, keep being really careful about their language, and are clearly making mental notes to try new approaches to research based on the questions they're being asked in the discussion
  • That there is a great deal of talk about neurons.  I'm only an hour into the discussion, but there's been no mention yet of the white matter of the brain, which is now beginning to be recognised as active in cognitive functioning.  A recent article in Scientific American (love that mag! - you know they have science podcasts on their website, right?) discusses the new research being done into what white matter does and how physical changes are made in the brain when new skills are learned (ie. habits of thought and body affect the brain and vice versa)
Neuroplasticity has been lightly touched on, as one audience member pointed out that some areas of the US are overwhelmingly politically conservative and others overwhelmingly liberal, but that is only just beginning to unfold as part of the discussion so far.

Sometimes bad, sometimes good...

My day was shitty. And I mean REALLY shitty. I almost broke my leg, my ankle hurts like hell, I hate school, I hate bloody snow, I had to wait an hourn for a bus to take me to school when usually it takes 20 minutes and I was waiting 30 damn minutes outised, freezing my ass off. Fuck it all.

BUT, [info]bachaboska as always managed to make me feel better. Thank you, Sweetie. And I can't wait 'til Saturday. Seriously. Finally Christmas break for me. Yay!

Noodling

In between emergency auntying, tidying the whole house so whoever bobs in to check on it while we're away doesn't run screaming, buying and wrapping family gifts, trying to get info about the swine flu jab from the doc's receptionists (got there in the end), getting PJs and TSA locks, prepping for the last two days of my face to face classes over this weekend, planning and pricing up a bathroom overhaul, and packing, I wondered why present means right here, right now and gift. This evening, I'm just having a few hours rest, tooling around, checking lists, and listening to a Big Finish Doctor Who audio adventure.  And it just keeps popping into my head that, given how content mindfulness practice makes people, it's really apt that the greatest gift we can give ourselves and the people around us is being present:  Being present in the present's the present.

Some of the ways that mindfulness affects the brain and emotional experience, as explained by a psychotherapist who is also a neuroscientist:
